What a week in Indianapolis! We saw record-breaking performance from damn near every position group, and I learned a ton about how the league views the 2026 NFL draft class from my conversations with scouts and execs in Indy. It’s important to note that while we’re inching closer to Round 1 kicking off in Pittsburgh on April 23 (53 days away!), there is still a ton for teams to learn about these prospects on and off the field. Pro days and official (30) visits will be crucial, as will medical rechecks and reviews of the all-22 tape now that players’ athletic profiles can be critiqued through the proper lens.
If there’s one take-home message from Indy, it's that the debate about drafting the best player available vs. drafting based on team need and positional value will be at the forefront of decision-makers’ minds more than in a typical year. That’s what happens when the draft’s best prospects are at non-premium positions! We’ll get more into that discussion and touch on some other lessons below. Let’s get to it.
